THE SHOPPING CHANNEL APPLE TV APP
I was responsible for designing The Shopping Channel’s Apple TV app to coincide with their iOS and Android app. Using the app, customers can watch the live channel, and use their remote to browse and purchase thousands of products, directly from their TV. I was the sole designer for the UX and Art direction of the app from concept to completion.
THE PROBLEM
The primary purpose of this app was to reach a new audience and extend to the AppleTV. This project coincided with a re-think as to demographic that The Shopping Channel was trying to bring in. In a nutshell, they were going for a younger, more tech-savy audience, instead of the traditional audience that they had.
CHALLENGES
Like most projects, there were some challenges. For one, the app needed to appeal to that demographic that The Shopping Channel was after. Secondly, the project itself had it’s challenges as purchasing products on an AppleTV alone are much different than the act of purchasing products online or even using your mobile device.
Usability was even more important than it usually is, as on a AppleTV, users can only move in a linear fashion, ie: either up and down or across the screen. Therefore, buttons that are critical for users to check out and not abandon their cart HAD to be placed in the right spot, for example.
