Yelp

Yelp has traditionally been known as a restaurant review company, but in 2023, Yelp doubled down on building new experiences that help consumers seamlessly connect with local service professionals for their home needs. I’ve been lucky enough to lead the design of some great work and amazing talent at Yelp. I’ve worked on bringing the “Projects” tab to Yelp, designed features for our LLM product such as Yelp Assistant Memory and am now managing my team of designers that operate within Consumer Services.

“Projects” experience

In prior years, consumers had no easy way to manage their projects in app and communications from pros were bundled with P2P in-app messages. With the addition of the Projects tab, consumers are now able to find messages from pros more easily, manage their project details, view their project status and communicate with pros with ease. All this to say, quote requests and calls are all bundled in one dashboard, allowing consumers to save time when comparing quotes, vetting pros or tracking the status of their project.

This was a massive move for Yelp in introducing Services as a key investment area. My focus was to lead the design of this effort, collaborating with several different cross-functional teams and iterating on the many, many follow-ups and evolutions of this space since it’s launch in 2022. Now, consumers can now do things like archive old projects, edit project details on-the-go, view recommended projects based on your behavior and even plan future projects that are on your list. It’s now become a hub to not only manage your existing projects, but to get inspired and start something new.

Yelp Assistant Memory

In 2025, we launched Yelp Assistant, Yelp’s emerging AI-powered conversational feature designed to help consumers find, plan and manage local services through a more natural, chat-based experience, instead of manually browsing listings and submitting a quote request. As part of this, I was responsible for designing Yelp Assistant experiences such as integrating Memory into our LLM product. In short, Memory allows the LLM to “remember” your details and past project information (much like ChatGPT does) to streamline future requests and tailor your experience. Naturally, this involved things like designing out a Memory hub which gives consumers access and control over the types of Memories that have been stored.

This experience brought up strategic discussions around what the Yelp future might look like in a world where Yelp is a highly personalized home service companion. Can you imagine a place that automates things for you, personalizes it’s content and reminders based on your needs and really acts as a command centre for your home? All this to say, an impactful feature with a breadth of possibility; I’m just grateful to have had the opportunity to lead this effort.
